Teaching Philosophy;
Teaching and learning go hand in hand; I believe I have just as much to learn from my students as they do from me. As an educator, my goal is not only to teach art but to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and confidence in every student.
Art is more than just technique; it’s a powerful way to explore ideas, express emotions, and make sense of the world. I strive to create a welcoming and engaging classroom where students feel encouraged to take risks, trust their instincts, and grow as both artists and individuals.
I believe that meaningful learning stems from strong relationships. Building trust between teacher and student—as well as student to student—is essential for creating a classroom community where everyone feels safe, supported, and empowered to share their voice. These relationships form the backbone of a collaborative and respectful learning environment.
Beyond teaching artistic skills, I am committed to helping students become compassionate, well-rounded thinkers. I want them to leave my classroom not only with a deeper understanding of art but also with the confidence to make bold choices, embrace challenges, and see the value in their unique perspectives.
In my classroom, every student’s voice matters, and I am here to support and inspire them on their creative journey.
A little about me;
Hello there! My name is Brittany Ruland (Mrs. Ruland) and I’m a K-12 licensed art educator, passionate about empowering creativity and self-expression in my students. I earned my BFA w/ licensure from MSU of Denver in 2025. My own artistic practice spans from ceramics, painting, sculpture, and digital art—exploring themes of popular culture and the familiar.
In my classroom, art is more than just making—it’s about thinking, problem-solving, and discovering new perspectives. My goal is to create a space where students feel inspired to take creative risks, build confidence in their choices, and develop the skills to express themselves in meaningful ways. I strive to build strong, supportive relationships with my students, so they feel seen, valued, and safe to explore their ideas freely.
When I’m not teaching or creating, I love going on grand adventures with my husband of 10 years and our 9-year-old son—whether it’s visiting museums and zoos across the country or making our way to my favorite place on earth, Disneyland.
I’m excited to share my passion for art and learning with my students and community!
